Tooling

Whitney’s Punch and Die Division uses the finest production machinery and inspection equipment to assure the accuracy and dependability of every punch, die and industrial tool.

Tooling engineers are dedicated to product development and to providing continuous improvement to increase your tooling efficiency.

The complete tooling line includes the 28XX Quick Change Tooling originated by the company, 36TC™ and 44TC™ tooling available in both full bodied and insert styles. Structural tooling for portable presses and a full line of ironworker tooling is also available.

The new TuffSkin™ line of premium tooling, available in any style, provides up to 10 times the life of regular punches when used in difficult applications. (TuffSkin.pdf)

Knowledgeable tooling engineers are available to consult with you about your punching, forming or marking projects. They are ready to work with you to develop special tooling to satisfy unique applications. Send a sketch or sample part for a quick quotation. A manufacturing drawing will be kept on file for easy ordering and the sample will be returned to you within 24 hours.

With outstanding quality, on-time delivery and competitive pricing, you can rest assured that Whitney tooling is the best.

Insert Style Tooling

Shaped inserts can save you up to 50 percent over full-bodied tooling while providing the same accuracy, durability and more flexibility. One insert holder accommodates a large range of shaped inserts.

Standard or special orientations are available. Standard orientation slots are positioned at 0 and 90 degrees. A pin and slot system aligns the tooling at any angle for accuracy. The positioning pin is easily removed for the use of standard round inserts. Special orientation slots can be added for a small charge.

The size and part number are etched on the tool radius for easy identification without removing from the holder.

Inserts are available in standard tool steel or HSS.

TuffSkin™ Premium Tooling

Specially formulated to last longer! TuffSkin tooling provides extended wear and withstands high compressive stresses. An advanced chemical process combines with extra strength base materials to form an abrasion resistant surface that does not flake off.

With TuffSkin Tooling you can:

  • Punch holes smaller than material thickness—even in high strength steels,
  • Achieve extended tooling wear—up to ten times that of a standard punch in shave punches used for vertical holes in thick materials—with minimum breakout,
  • Punch up to three or more times more holes than with a standard tool in normal applications.
  • Withstand wear from heavy punching applications such as perforating,
  • Prevent galling—surface stays clean,
  • Reduce costs of inspecting and resharpening punches.
